Chapter 1: Introduction to Data Close-out Course
This chapter explains the course and presents the learning objectives for each chapter.

Chapter 2: What is “Data Close-out”?
This chapter explains what “data close-out” is, and the differences between closing a research dataset compared to a production dataset. It includes a case study on a botched data close-out, and a challenge for the learner to make their own data close-out plan.

Chapter 3: Preparing for Data Close-out
This chapter describes how to work with an interdisciplinary team when closing out datasets. It includes advice on writing requirements for analytic datasets, a case study on the Vioxx scandal, and a challenge for the learner to practice preparing for data close-out.

Chapter 4: Closing out Variables
This chapter helps the learner design variables to serve up to users as part of data close-out. It provides case studies on several data close-out failures, and a data close-out challenge for the learner to solve.

Chapter 5: Closing out Tables
This chapter helps the learner decide what tables to serve up to users, and includes a case study on HCUP’s web site. It includes a challenge for the learner to serve up data tables as part of their close-out strategy.
